Past Exhibition: 29 March – 28 October 2018
2018 marked the 100th anniversary of America’s first major military engagement in the Great War 1914 – 1918.
Side by Side: America and World War I uncovered the relationship between the US and Europe, as well as reflecting on those who went into battle, and those who stayed at home.
This immersive exhibition explored life back home, recruitment, and training. It also featured a Red Cross field hospital and a reconstructed Renault FT tank used by the Americans on the Western Front.
Visitors were introduced to some of those who served on the home front, and to those who saw active service, including Ernest Hemingway, President Woodrow Wilson, and one of the 16 million animals who served.
