Bath at Christmas

8 November, 2021 | Amelia Christmas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…and Bath is the place to be!

There’s plenty on offer this Christmas in Bath, and so much fun to be had. The American Museum & Gardens is delighted to be part of the Bath at Christmas offering with our daily festive opening, Christmas at Claverton Manor from 25 November, our Christmas Choral evening from Noctis Chamber Choir on 4 December, and our first major Christmas illuminations event throughout our grounds, The Enchanted Garden of Light from 9 to 31 December.

To help you plan your other festive activities in Bath we’ve selected some highlight events from our friends and partners…

Get your skates on!

Bath on Ice has finally returned for 2021. Gather with friends and family for a magical skating session. With 1000 square meters of smooth ice, the rink is bigger than ever, and will be glowing with atmospheric lighting. The perfect wintery scene! There will be a cosy “apres-skate” alpine bar, serving seasonal drinks, with wood-fired pizza, churros and more. Book here.

“Oh yes we will”… go to the theatre this Christmas!

Bath’s fantastic pantomime is back at the Theatre Royal from 16 December, with Cinderella, a brand new show written and starring Bath’s legend of panto Jon Monie. The spectacular production will delight with an enchanting story, side-splitting comedy, lavish settings and adorable miniature ponies. With CBBC star Dani Harmer as the Fairy Godmother. Book tickets here.

The Egg Christmas show returns from 10 December with a sparkling new take on E Nesbit’s Five Children and It, recommended for ages 6+. Sent away to live in the countryside with their uncle, five children discover a secret that’s been hidden away for centuries: a magical, mischievous and extremely grumpy Sand Fairy called It, with the power to grant spectacular wishes. Amazing adventures from the award-winning theatre company Bucket Club.  Book tickets here.

Out of this world exhibitions…

Luke Jerram’s incredible touring exhibition, Museum of the Moon, comes to Bath Abbey from 20 November to 24 December. Come and see this breathtaking artwork in the Abbey or join one of the special events taking place during the exhibition. The Abbey will be hosting Christmas carols, magical storytelling for children, and moon-gazing with the Bath Astronomers, all under the light of the Moon in the Abbey’s newly restored worship space. Click here for more info.

Visit Myths and Monsters, the family friendly exhibition at Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery from 27 November to 27 February. Linking the worlds of literature, art and myth with some of the very best you could expect to meet. Contributors include Axel Scheffler, Michael Foreman and Cressida Cowell. Stand by for fun, frights and frolics to make the fur stand-up on the back of your neck. More info here.

And don’t miss a spot of Christmas shopping…

After a break of nearly two years, Bath Artisan Market – Christmas at Queen Square – is back and running every day from the 20th November to the 19th December. Featuring a changing rota of unique independent traders over the four-week run with food, drink and fabulous Christmas gifts, this is not to be missed! Find out more here.
