Winter

Winter

Late sunrises and early sunsets give the gardens and grounds dramatic skies and valley views during the winter months. Whether you visit on a bright day with fresh winter sun, or explore the pathways under a blanket of clouds, it’s worth the trip. Architectural trees, bare branches and crispy seedheads provide lots of interest for the senses. The final form of many prairie-style plants are frozen in time and space, showing their striking winter patterns and textures. Look out for the mass of fiery red dogwood and gold willow stems framing the horizon in the New American Garden, and the lace heads of hydrangeas. Colours of rust, buff, bronze and ash complement the evergreen tones of rosemary, cedar, cypress, redwood and more. Visit after frost for a sparkling winter walk.
