Quilts & Textiles

Star of Bethlehem quilt (detail)

Ranging from the eighteenth to mid-twentieth centuries, the American Museum’s collection of over 250 quilts is acclaimed as the finest of its type in Europe and the equal of many premier collections in the United States. Over 50 quilts are always on view in the Textile Room (on the first floor of the Museum) and throughout the Period Rooms. Examples include early whole-cloth quilts, pieced and appliqued work, and Hawaiian and Amish quilts.

Also on display in the Textile Room are a selection of Navajo and New Mexican weavings, hooked and braided rugs, woven coverlets, and samplers.
