The American Theatre Club presents ‘Trouble in Mind’ in association with The Theatre Royal in Bath performing at the Ustinov Theatre on 1st December at 7.30pm

Alice Childress’s groundbreaking drama ‘Trouble in Mind’, an explosive staple of the American theatrical scene, launches our new theatre club.

Alice Childress remains an extraordinary trailblazer in the history of American Theatre. She was the first African-American woman to have a play professionally produced in New York and won an OBIE award for this production in 1956.

Trouble in Mind: Wiletta Mayer a talented African-American actress who has spent a lifetime building a career in the theatre is on Broadway, rehearsing an anti-lynching play with a white director. As rehearsals progress, Wiletta finds it increasingly difficult to relate to her role. Peppered with incisive humour and rich characters, this vivid depiction of backstage life satirises the white-dominated theatre scene of the 1950s.

You are invited to an exciting evening of theatre!

Pre-theatre supper at the Firehouse Rotisserie at 5:30 – three courses with wine included.

Best seats in the house, Ustinov Studio, at 7:30 – complimentary drinks at the interval.

Discussion of the play following the performance – if you wish to stay.

£70 per person – 2nd ticket free
