Annual Appeal Launched

Give to our annual appeal today

The Museum has just launched its latest annual appeal: We need to raise £20,000 to prepare for, and mark, the Manor House’s 200th anniversary in 2020: We wish to commission British artist Bruce Munro to create and install a spectacular chandelier, or light sculpture, for central hall to celebrate this milestone. The new installation will be unique in the United Kingdom and sympathetic to the history of the House, with a “nod” to the vibrant role it plays in modern times.

You can donate to the annual appeal online for the first time ever ( by telephone (01225 823010); or, by post. (Simply download, print and complete the donation form on our website and return it with your cheque to: Development Office, American Museum in Britain, Claverton Manor, Bath BA2 7BD). The Museum accepts debit and credit card donations (American Express, Delta, Maestro, Mastercard, and Visa).

Thank you for your support.

Museums at Night: Fright at the Museum

October 28, 2016 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

As darkness gathers over the American Museum, join us for a very special late opening in celebration of Halloween.

Behind the doors of Claverton Manor a host of ghostly storytellers await, ready with the most ghastly tales from American folklore. Visitors begin in the shadows of our seventeenth century room where they’ll hear the story of Bloody Mary, who terrorised villagers in rural Pennsylvania four hundred years ago. Whatever you do don’t say her name three times, and don’t look back into the shadows to see who (or what) might be following…

Guides will lead timed tours through the Museum, stopping to listen to our storytellers and finding a few nasty surprises along the way. Hear about Claverton Manor’s own sinister past and the peculiar goings on witnessed by staff and volunteers. Perhaps our own ghosts will join the party?

Timed tours will take place at 6, 6.30, 7, 7.30, 8, and 8.30pm.

To pre-book call 01225 820866 or use our contact form. You can also drop-in without booking but may have to wait for the next available tour, according to demand.

Please note that the ghost stories featured are not suitable for younger children. The tour is designed for ages 14+ but parental discretion is advised.
