Volunteers Week

The first week of June is National Volunteers’ Week and here at the American Museum we will be marking the work of our wonderful team of volunteers with a Tea Party on the Terrace on 6 June. To add to the fun there will once again be a baking competition and this year, in keeping with our main exhibition, we will be putting creativity to the test by inviting cakes, cup cakes, cookies, and tray bakes, all decorated with An American Toy Story theme. We have nearly 150 volunteers at the Museum who are all great ambassadors for us, either as room guides, tour guides, assisting in the library, herb shop assistants, garden workers, and curatorial helpers. We could not open without them and we say a massive thank you to every single one of them for their amazing support.

Surprise Visitor to the Country Store

Country Store Manager Christine Bocci was on duty & met her

During May Alice Backman and her husband visited us from Hagerstown, Maryland. Alice is the owner of Alice’s Cottage, one of the leading fabric giftware companies in the USA. The Country Store has been buying goods from Alice’s Cottage for more than fifteen years, and from the beginning they have been our best seller especially popular at Christmas due to their originality and American charm. Alice was enchanted by the original old store’s fixtures & fittings and took lots of photographs to show her staff in the USA, including a ‘sneaky’ one of me behind the counter!

News from the Gallery Shop

The Star Wars books, badges, and light sabers, and also all our Frozen gifts, are proving very popular with the young – and indeed not so young! The Gallery Shop also has new ranges this year which showcase some of the Museum’s most iconic images, from Buffalo Bill to Audubon’s birds, and of course the perennially popular quilts. The images are reproduced on boxed china mugs, coasters, cotton bags, and stationery.

With Father’s Day coming up there may be a unique gift to be found here…

University of Bath Open Day's

Thursday 16 & Friday 17 June 2016

The University of Bath will be hosting two of its award-winning Open Days this month and expects thousands of prospective students and their families to make their way to campus. These will take place on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June, and although the organisers at the University will endeavour to minimise disruption, there will be some localised impact to your journey. We recommend those coming by car to approach us via the A36 Warminster Road and come up Claverton Hill. Coaches, Minibuses, and campervans can only access us by passing the University due to the narrow lane and sharp turn into our drive. Our Shuttle Bus schedule may also be affected, so please be patient.
