Events 2016

There are many family fun events (Independence Day and Young Artist Workshops) plus workshops (from beer tasting to gardening) and fairs coming up, so be sure to book soon!

Our Music Series continues to be popular each month – see which you fancy tapping your toes to.

Please take a look at our full events listing on our website, call us to request leaflets, or download leaflets from the following links. We have split the event leaflets into three: Family Fun, Music Series, and Workshops and Events.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our family of volunteers lies at the very heart of the American Museum and plays a major role in our success. In recent times, our volunteering opportunities have focused mainly on Room Guiding or helping in the Herb Shop but, increasingly, we recognise that there are many people who would relish a chance to volunteer with us in other roles. 2016 will therefore see us expanding the variety of options available with the creation of an Events Team, including workshop participation and stewarding positions, guiding in the gardens, more administrative ‘behind the scenes’ activities, and a chance to input to the many craft-based needs of the Museum. Interested? Head Receptionist

This month we bid a fond farewell to Sue Edgeworth, our Head Receptionist, who retires at the beginning of July. Sue has been welcoming visitors through our doors for many years and her enthusiasm for the Museum and its collections is often noted. Sue looks forward to spending more time on her many creative endeavours, and with her family.

The Head Receptionist role will be filled by Jorgia Vilarrubi. Jorgia has been involved with the Museum since 2013, when she began volunteering as a room guide. She has been part of the Front of House team since 2014, and is currently working in the role of Weekend Receptionist as well as leading tours. Jorgia has a BA in History from the University of Plymouth.

Latest review: “Well worth a visit” 4/5 stars Beautiful building , very knowledgeable staff , outstanding views over the countryside and lovely gardens with pleasant tea room. Visited June 2016.

Wildflowers and grasses

Our Head Gardener, Andrew Cannell, shares his thoughts on the Museum’s wildflowers and grasses in his latest blog – have a read then come and explore the gardens for yourselves to see these wonderful displays.

Exhibition inspired baking

When visiting the cafe next, do indulge in some of the new delicacies inspired by this year’s An American Toy Story exhibition. Try a Wookie Cookie or an Admiral Ackbar alongside our usual Boston Brownies and Connecticut Snickerdoodles. Our cafe is open from 10.30am, Tuesday-Sunday, so why not treat yourself to a morning coffee on the terrace or an afternoon tea in the Orangery this summer?
