Happy New Year!

This is when the hard work takes place so that we are ready to welcome you back in the Spring...

When the doors closed on 20 December 2015, the hustle and bustle of taking down the Christmas displays and putting the Museum to bed ensued. The collection enjoyed a restful holiday period before staff members returned to start the deep clean, send items for conservation, strip & paint exhibition gallery walls, and coordinate the arrival of loans for this year’s special exhibitions. The offices are busy with marketing, bookings, research, and administration, organising staff & volunteer training, and generally gearing up for another successful year as our closed period goes so very fast…

Volunteer Opportunities

Our family of volunteers lies at the very heart of the American Museum and plays a major role in our success. In recent times, our volunteering opportunities have focused mainly on Room Guiding or helping in the Herb Shop but, increasingly, we recognise there are many people who would relish a chance to volunteer with us in other roles. 2016 will therefore see us expanding the variety of options available with the creation of an Events Team, including workshop participation and stewarding positions, more administrative ‘behind the scenes’ activities, and a chance to input to the many craft-based needs of the Museum. Interested? New Volunteer Gardener Opportunity

The first of the new volunteer opportunities mentioned above comes in the shape of a gardening role. Our Head Gardener, Andrew Cannell, is looking for four volunteers to help on a weekly basis with the upkeep, development, and protection of our grounds. This is a chance to be at the start of something really exciting as we look forward to the creation of a brand new American Garden. So, if you fancy a chance to get your hands dirty and have fun, all the while working in one of the most spectacular locations Bath has to offer, click below to read the full role profile or get in touch

Please give generously to our 2015 Annual Appeal

The Museum’s 2015 annual appeal, in aid of our beautiful gardens, has had a good response and hopes to have more donations to add to the total so far raised.

We are asking supporters to underwrite the first phase of an ambitious project called Roots and Shoots. The project aims to improve our gardens and their supporting facilities for everyone’s greater enjoyment.

We urgently need to raise £20,000 by early 2016 to fund the first phase: a new potting shed to replace the existing 1960s structure, which is leaky and no longer adequate to service large gardens in the 21st century. We need to finish the new shed by the start of the next season in March to ensure that we produce as little disturbance as possible to visitors.
