An Arts Council England grant awarded to a partnership of independent Bath Museums, including the American Museum in Britain, Bath Preservation Trust, and the Holburne Museum, has enabled us to work with a range of local community groups over the past several months.

Artist Jane Johnson has supported a group from Age UK to create their own ceramics inspired by the museum collections. The project will culminate in a tea party at No. 1 Royal Crescent, in which the participants will enjoy tea and cake from their own hand-crafted cups, plates, and cake stands.

Groups from Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust have also taken part in creative workshops at the partnership museums, creating art which will be displayed in the ‘FreshArt@Hillview’ exhibition, from 31 May- 8 June at the Building of Bath Collection. The work will then be used to enliven the walls of the Hillview Lodge inpatient centre for people with mental health problems.

Families who access support from Bath Area Play Project are also taking part in craft and play activities at the partner museums.

The project has been a great opportunity for the American Museum to welcome new audiences through our doors. We look forward to continuing this valuable work in the future.
