Native American Collection

The Museum has recently been given an important early Anasazi bowl, helping us to grow our Native American collection.  The Anasazi were a Native American people thought to be the ancient ancestors of Pueblo Indians, in the south west of America.

If you would like to bring your pupils to the Museum to discover the diversity of Native American peoples, please email us to book a hands-on learning session: Native Americans: As Varied as the Land or one of our Native American art sessions.

Understanding Slavery

If you’re teaching your pupils about slavery this year, you may be interested in the Understanding Slavery Initiative website, which contains a wealth of information, resources, and advice.

We run an Understanding Slavery in America session that gives students the opportunity to explore the Museum’s archive and handling collections to uncover the experiences of enslaved peoples.

Free Transport to the Museum

Travel grants available to help with the cost of your coach

At the American Museum in Britain, we believe in the value of learning outside the classroom with real artefacts.  With this in mind we do our upmost to support teachers in bringing their pupils to the museum.  We are, therefore, delighted to be able to offer travel grants of up to £200 to help cover the cost of getting to the Museum.

The funding for the transport was an incredibly generous offer!’  Year 5 class teacher.
