A one-day symposium / two-day symposia + workshop event – from Bath School of Art & Design Textile Research Centre in partnership with the American Museum in Britain.
DAY 1 – ‘Red Work’ symposium at Bath School of Art and Design

Rachael Howard, acclaimed textile artist, and Lecturer in Textile Design at Bath Spa University, brings her celebrated exhibition ‘Red Work’ direct from the Waterside Arts Centre in Manchester, to the BSU Sion Hill Campus, before it heads on tour in the South West.
Drawing on a range of sources and gathered expertise this broad and stimulating day will explore the history, values, and reach of Redwork and other related textiles employing stitch and imagery to capture, share and provoke cultural discourse.
Co-convened by Rachael Howard and Tim Parry-Williams (Course Leader MA Design: Fashion & Textiles), this is the latest symposia event presented by the Textile Research Centre at Bath Spa University.
DAY 2 – Red Work – American Museum Special Collection Tours and Workshop with Rachael Howard

There is limited access to the curatorial workshop where the curator will be showing redwork quilts from the collection on Saturday. The workshop is on the lower level of the exhibition building. There is no lift access to the workshop, only stairs. Anyone who cannot use stairs will not be able to get to the workshop.
All other areas of the Museum are fully accessible. This is the only space that isn’t because it is not usually visited by members of the public.
