The Museum has always been an inspiration for visitors of all ages, especially when looking ahead to the future. Work experience is particularly helpful for anyone of sixth form or university age, studying history or American studies, contemplating a career in the culture and heritage sector, or looking to gain confidence and experience in customer service.
We offer placements during our regular season, mid-March to late-October. They usually last from Tuesday to Saturday though individual placements can be tailor-made to suit the specific needs of students or courses.
The duties are many and varied, aimed at introducing students to every facet of Museum life. Duties will range from behind-the-scenes administration tasks to guiding in the Museum’s Period Rooms and Exhibition, from learning how to tie a Tussie Mussie posy to helping with market research.
Interested in applying? Then contact our Volunteers Manager, Sharon Blanchard, on 01225 823017 or via our contact form to discuss options and arrange a time to meet. Please include your proposed dates and any paperwork required by your school. The American Museum is a popular destination for work experience students so make sure to apply as soon as possible, especially for the very busy summer and autumn school work experience weeks.
