Christmas 2016 – Treasured Toys
24 November to 18 December 2016
Tuesday – Sunday, 12noon-4.30pm
For our 2016 Christmas displays, we welcome all our visitors to come and play as we celebrate traditional toys and games from American history. Each of our Period Rooms will be transformed to show a different favourite pastime and will be filled with festive florals, toys, games, and fun.
The centrepiece of the displays is the magnificent Nordman Fir Christmas tree that fills our Central Hall. This year it will be bedecked with stocking filler toys that will festoon the tree in bands of colour to create a rainbow of treats. It’s sure to be unlike anything we have done before!
Teddy bears have run amok in the Museum. See if you can catch them unawares, as they try to hold their teddy bears’ picnic in our Period Rooms.
Many of the decorations around the Museum have been handmade by our volunteers and staff members. We are sure that the crafters among you will find inspiration for making pieces to adorn your own homes this Christmastime.
The Christmas shops will be open throughout this period selling a range of original Christmas gifts and decorations. On 26 and 27 of November the Museum is hosting a Christmas Craft Fair. Local craftspeople will be selling their unique handmade gifts, perfect for the festive season.
